Discussions

An integral part of the Side by Side LGBT Film Festival is the programme of roundtable discussions which take place after the film screenings. All our roundtables include an invited panel of guests and experts. As part of the 2010 film festival four panel discussions will take place and will be held at Press Club Zelenaya Lampa at 3 Gagarinskaya Street.


Bringing up Children in Same Sex Families

 

Following the screening of shorts Two Plus One there will be a discussion on bringing up children in same sex families. Issues to be addressed:

Exploration of same sex families with children in Russia

Level of visibility in society of same sex families with children

Parents coming out to children

School bullying Rights of same sex parents in current Russian legislation

Transgender Rights in the World: the Russian and Turkish Experience

 

Following the documentary film Me Nuri Bula there will be a discussion on the rights of transgender people around the world and an analysis of the Russian and Turkish experience. Esmeray, on which the film is based, will be in attendance. Esmeray will talk about the situation in Turkey and what difficulties are faced in winning rights for transgender people. Issues to be addressed:

Level of Visibility or transgender people in Russia and Turkey.

Strategies an opportunities advancing the rights of transgender people: A Global Perspective

Acceptance of LGBT people by their Family, Relatives and Friends

 

Following the screening of Prayers for Bobby a discussion on coming out and the problems related to family, relatives and friends accepting LGBT people. Issues to be addressed:

Main causes of homophobia and rejection by friends and family

Reasons for LGBT people not wanting to come out

How to help loved ones in the adoption of LGBT

Available resources in Russia for helping to come to terms with

Movement for LGBT Rights in the World and Russia

 

 

Following the documentary Stonewall Uprising there will be a discussion on the LGBT movement around the world and in Russia. The discussion is organized jointly with Russian LGBT Network, which operates at federal levels with local LGBT organizations. Issues to be addressed:

LGBT movement in different countries

Situation of LGBT activism in Russia

International human rights organization ILGA Europe placed rated Russia as one of the lowest countries for observing LGBT Rights. Why?

Methods and strategies for improving the situation
