KARINA KARAEVA

Karina is a curator, art critic and head of the film sector in video art at the National Centre for Contemporary Arts (Moscow). Focus includes dealing with problems of visual language in culture. She has repeatedly participated in various festivals, and was on the international jury of the festival in Oberhausen. Karina is interested in experimental and documentary cinema and is writing a thesis on the social art images in national cinema from the 70s through to the 90s. She teaches at the Open School, MediaArtLab, Russian State Humanitarian University and the British Higher School of Design.

This is the second time that I am taking part in the Side by Side Film Festival, which raises very important issues relating identification and self-identification. The representation of these themes in film and video at this present time is very important and interesting.
