2016 Side by Side Season Starts! Film, Discussions and More... The 2016 season opens with screenings in Saint Petersburg and Moscow throughout February and March. Take a look at the calendar of events below and join us at our screenings and discussions! VICTIM Side by Side will be presenting the great British classic, Victim, starring Dirk Bogarde. Victim is a bold comment on a then hushed-up subject of homosexuality. The film remains a forceful, frank account of British societal mores, firmly backed up by laws. An extraordinary performance by Dirk Bogarde grounds this intense, sobering indictment of early-sixties social intolerance and sexual puritanism. Bogarde plays Melville Farr, a married barrister who is one of a large group of closeted London men who become targets of a blackmailer. Basil Dearden’s unmistakably political taboo buster was one of the first films to address homophobia head-on, a cry of protest against British laws forbidding homosexuality. The collection first premiered at the 8th Side by Side in Saint Petersburg to great acclaim. The film, I’m Black, I'm Queer and I am a Whore won the BOBIK Award for Best Short Documentary. Although Rana is a traditional wife and mother, she is forced to drive a cab to pay off the debt that keeps her husband in prison. By chance she picks up the wealthy and rebellious Edi, who is desperately awaiting a passport to leave the country. At first Rana attempts to help, but when she realizes that Edi is transgender, a dangerous series of conflicts arises..
