A Packed March with Screenings and Discussions in Tomsk, Saint Petersburg & Moscow! March is a busy month for Side by Side and we are actively organising events across Russia in the cities of Tomsk, Saint Petersburg and Moscow. TOMSK: 21 March, 15.00 – 18.00 Side by Side will be presenting the collection of short documentary films, A Day in the Life of…, which show the realities of life for LGBT persons in Russia. The collection was coproduced by Side by Side and has already been screened in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. The films, by Russian directors – Olga Privolnova, Alina Rudnitskaya and Kristina Kvitko, have been received enthusiastically by audiences, resulting in long and animated discussions following the screenings. The film, Who are they? by Olga Privolnova, won the Side by Side BOBIK Award for Best Short Documentary, in 2014. Venue: Avtograf, 6 Vershinna ul Tickets: 150 rubles (100 rubles for students, pensioners and physically challenged persons) Entrance is restricted to persons 18+ only.
____________________________________________________________________________ SAINT PETERSBURG: 25 March, 20.00 – 23.00 Dutch Courage - a collection of shorts that examine the lives of LGBT person in the Netherlands and reveals that the situation is not always that straightforward and many individuals face internal dilemmas as well as discrimination and prejudice. Joining the screening will be award winning director Jan-Dirk Bouw – the creator of the film I Love Hooligans. The film looks at the role of one gay mans participation in the football hooligan subcultural scene. To open up further this phenomena of LGBT in subcultural groups there will be a lecture delivered on the topic. Venue: MORE, 20 Malaya Morskaya ul Tickets: 250 rubles (200 rubles for students, pensioners and physically challenged persons) Entrance is restricted to persons 18+ only.
____________________________________________________________________________ MOSCOW: 27 March, 20.00 – 23.00 The award winning, Love is Strange, by Ira Sachs looks at the problems faced by LGBT persons in their senior years. Things take a turn for the worse when, after 28 years together, Ben and George take advantage of the new marriage laws and tie the knot in a garden wedding in the East Village. The films brings home the vulnerability of elderly people, the fragility of support mechanisms and the challenges that they bring. After the screening Ira Sachs will participate in a Q & A via SKYPE and there will be a discussion with guests on senior LGBT lives.
