|   | Statement: Something Must Break is about loving yourself for who you are. It is about standing for your femininity. To celebrate difference. The multiplicity is not the problem it is the solution to the problem. It is a great honor to show the film in Moscow and Russia with its long tradition of queer culture. From Russian ballet to icons as writer Nikolai Gogol, the composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, director Sergei Eisenstein and poet Maria Tsvetaeva. I look forward to meet the audience in Moscow and be inspired. Ester Martin Bergsmark and Mark Hammarberg met at the school of documentary filmmaking at Biskops Arnö. They have been working closely together for four years, developing a characteristic and innovative style. Their projects are characterized by a will to experiment, an aesthetic drive and a skill for showing new images, rooted in today’s Sweden that pushes the envelope for the documentary genre. Their film, Swallow It (2007), was an experiment that has been described as a kick in the stomach of traditional film-making. Their feature film Maggie in Wonderland (2008) was awarded a Guldbagge. In 2009 Ester Martin Bergsmark contributed to the debated feminist porn suite Dirty Diaries with his short Fruitcake, shown at numerous film festivals. |
