Sana Jammalieh was born and raised in Nazareth and currently lives in Haifa. She studied graphic design and runs her own studio and print shop, Rock Paper Scissors, in Haifa. Recently she opened a dance bar, Scene Music Bar. She started DJ-ing 8 years ago and she is the first Palestinian female DJ in Israel. Sana is not a professionally trained actress. She met the director of In Between, Maysaloun Hamoud, by chance when DJ-ing in a bar in Jaffa, Tel Aviv. She did not think twice when Maysaloun invited her to audition for the role of Salma. “Very excited in participating in the festival, especially in a place which is considered quite conservative towards some issues like LGBT. I come from a similar place and it is one of the reasons why I participated in the film In Between. The film is very important, with a strong message. In Israel, it is considered revolutionary here. Issues like LGBT should be talked about more, it makes people proud to be themselves, to see themselves represented in the cinema. I think it's an amazing feeling to connect to a character that you see in a film. I think the arts are an amazing space to make statements and express oneself." |
